From: Mother Vera Hullum

One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible regarding women is found in Proverbs 14:1, which states, “Every wise woman buildeth her house; but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” In the Bible, we read many examples of women who were builders: The Shunammite woman, who showed hospitality to the prophet Elisha, Hannah the mother of Samuel (who was the last of the judges), Sarah, who was the obedient wife of Abraham, and subsequently, the Mother of Many Nations. And, of course, there is Mary the mother of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. There is also Lois & Eunice, who prepared a minister (Timothy), there is also the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31, as well as, the aged women, who were teachers of good things in Titus 2, and many, many others.

When we think of “building,” we usually think of putting together tangible things with our hands. However, as Godly women living in the present-day & time, we have a much more important job to do!

1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing.” Jeremiah 9:17 says for us to “Consider ye, and call for the mourning women that they may come; and send for the cunning women that they may come.” Genesis 2:18 states, “And, the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

As Godly women, we must fervently pray & mourn. We must entreat God to help our husbands, our sons, our daughters, our brothers, our sisters, our mothers, our fathers, our leaders and pastors, and the saints everywhere. We must remember to consistently and continually beseech the throne of God for his mercy and guidance.

When in prayer ask God to show you how to use Godly cunningness to build up the people whom you come into contact with. Ask God for his wisdom and his knowledge, daily, so that you might meet the needs of others.

It is time out for only being concerned and consumed with your own problems. Instead, we must be concerned about the problems of our families, churches, communities, cities, states, countries, and the world as a whole. We must look to God in faith and know that he is the only one who can keep us in the desperate times in which we live.

This year will mark fifty-three years of marriage for my husband and I. We have been blessed with children, grandchildren, and even one great-grandchild. And, although, there have been many ups and downs in our lives; we have always kept God at the center of our relationship, and as a result, he has always kept our relationship centered on him.

Being prayerful, keeping God at the center of your life, and studying his word are key to being a Godly woman.

The Bible gives us warning about the end times through numerous prophecies; thus, you must study your Bible and listen to sound teaching, so that you can see as God fulfills each of these prophecies.

As women of God, we must be builders! We must realize that strong families make up churches, and churches strengthen communities, and strong communities strengthen cities, which build better countries, and shape a better world.

We certainly cannot minimize the challenges or the victories of any generation; nevertheless, I must emphasize the need for Godly women from all stations of life to heed the clarion cry for today’s generation!

WE MUST BE WISE BUILDERS, WE MUST SEEK GOD’S FACE, WE MUST BE THE HELP MEETS WE ARE CALLED TO BE, WE MUST USE GODLY CUNNINGNESS, AND THEREFORE, WE MUST PRAY!
